Dr. Paul A. Garber

Dr. Paul A. Garber is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Anthropology and the Program in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology at the University of Illinois. He has conducted field research on primate behavior, ecology, cognition, spatial memory, reproductive strategies, and conservation in Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama. Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and China. Earlier this year, Dr. Garber received the 2017 American Society of Primatologists Distinguished Primatologist Award. He also has served as the Executive Editor of the American Journal of Primatology (2008-2017). Paul has coedited 12 books or special journal issues, published over 200 scientific articles on primates, and has taught primate field courses in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Brazil, and China.

Dr. Nicola Schiel

Dr. Nicola Schiel holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Paraíba (1996), an MSc. in Animal Biology from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2000) and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Vienna (2004). She is currently an Associate Professor at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco in the Department of Biology and the Program of Ethnobiology and Conservation. She first began working on issues of primate behavior in 1994. She has experience in the area of Animal Behavior, acting mainly in the following subjects: behavior, ecology, and animal cognition. More recently, she has been working in Ethnobiology.

Dr. Antonio Souto

Dr. Antonio Souto holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1984), a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1985), a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences (Zoology, Animal Behavior) from the University of Bielefeld (Germany, 1990). He is currently a Full Professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco in the Department of Zoology and the Program in Animal Biology. He was a professor at the University of Vienna (winter semester 2008), where he taught on cognition and Neotropical primates. He is the author of a book in the area of ​​Animal Behavior (Ethology), Scientific Methodology and has a patent in the field of vector control and monitoring. He works mainly in the following subjects: social behavior, bioacoustics, biology of cognition, and applied ethology.


Dr. Cory Miller

Dr. Cory Miller is an Associate Professor at the University of California San Diego. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research focuses on brain, behavior and evolution of primate social behavior and cognition. Research in his lab range from field studies of marmosets in their natural habitat to implementing modern molecular technologies to dissect neural circuitry. Dr. Júlio César Bicca-Marques

Dr. Júlio César Bicca-Marques is a biologist, M.Sc. in Ecology and Ph.D. in Anthropology with expertise in primatology. He is a Professor at the School of Sciences of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and a Research Associate of the Department of Anthropology of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. He is interested in primate ecology, behavior, cognition and conservation biology. He has studied several species in the wild and published on all major New World monkey radiations. He is a member of the Neotropical Section of the Primate Specialist Group/SSC/IUCN.

Dr. Christini Barbosa Caselli

Dr. Christini Barbosa Caselli (Postdoctoral Fellow) holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2005), Masters (2008) and Ph.D. degrees (2013) in Ecology from Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Postdoctoral Fellow in The Postgraduate Program in Ethnobiology and Nature Conservation from the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco. Research Interests: behavioral ecology and animal communication.


MSc. María Fernanda de la Fuente

MSc. María Fernanda de la Fuente (Ph.D. candidate) is graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Brasilia (2008, Brazil), holds two Masters degrees, one in Biodiversity Conservation from the Mayor University (2011, Chile), and the other in Ecology from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (2014, Brazil). She is interested in behavioral ecology, animal welfare, and conservation. Currently, her research is on social behavior in free-living primates.


MSc. Filipa Abreu

MSc. Filipa Abreu (Ph.D. student) is graduated in Marine Biology from the University of Algarve in 2010, specialized in Behavior and Animal Welfare by the University Institute of Psychological, Social and Life Sciences (Portugal) and Master in Ecology by the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (2015). At present, she is a Ph.D. student in the Program in Ethnobiology and Conservation and her thesis focuses on the spatial cognition of free-living primates.
