Baracuhy Biological Field Station
The 400 hectare Baracuhy Biological Field Station (7 °31'42 "S, 36 °17'50" W) located in one of the driest areas in Brazil. It is characterized by Caatinga vegetation with average annual rainfall of 336.6 mm (about 13 inches per year). The mean temperatures range between 14º and 21ºC, reaching a maximum of 35ºC. The vegetation is dominated by low arboreal shrubs (mean canopy height = 3.5 m) and scattered trees, typical of semi-arid regions. Research at the Field Station on the behavior and ecology of common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) have been conducted since 2012.
